The Lightwell Dumbo is a contemporary interior design project located at the intersection of Dumbo and Vinegar Hill. Durukan Design led the comprehensive interior design and amenity planning for this seven-story, 218-unit apartment building, honoring the neighborhood’s industrial heritage while introducing a thoughtful blend of materiality, aesthetics, and functional innovation. At the heart of the project is an architectural intervention that transforms what could have been a dark, confined space into a luminous and airy environment, maximizing natural light and aligning with contemporary environmental goals. The lobby seamlessly connects to Café Revive — a communal space fostering connection and serenity — while expansive floor-to-ceiling windows blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, bringing in greenery and creating an inviting atmosphere. The material and color palette, featuring stone, bronze accents, and wood, reflects intentional craftsmanship, with a marble reception desk as a striking focal point and vibrant accents of green, rust, and peach adding warmth. Sculptural light fixtures and curated artwork bring personality to the amenity spaces, while the light, earth-tone scheme enhances the feeling of openness. The Lightwell Dumbo exemplifies how thoughtful interior design can blend history and innovation to shape experiences and elevate everyday urban living.
