Since its inception in 2005, Durukan Design has established a reputation to deliver unique designs and the practice has earned significant recognitions for that.

The firm, completed the design of a total of 1,179,000 sf in 2019 with another 3,847,000 sf of 27 projects on the board, and was ranked #15 out of 50 selected firms for Power Grid New York by Interior Design Magazine, succeeding renowned New York firms.

In 2018, Durukan was ranked #17 in this top design firms list.

Located in Bushwick, The Rheingold — our practice’s collaboration with The Rabsky Group and ODA New York, was awarded as the best Co-Living Complex of the Year – People’s Choice Award by Frame Magazine in 2020.

Our Halo in Long Island City, has been a Best of Year finalist, organized by the Interior Design Magazine and was listed among top 5 envied residential interiors in New York.

Principal and Director of Interior Design

Born, raised, educated and inspired in Istanbul Turkey, Funda Durukan is the founder and chief designer of Durukan Design, an interior design firm specializing in residential, hospitality and corporate interiors.

Through the development of more than 100 projects in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Ms. Durukan has established the welcomed reputation for the creation of elegance and warmth, created by the merging of timeless, modern minimalist design concepts with a focus on functionality.

Her firm’s highly talented designers and renderers are knowledgeable in all aspects of new materials, finishes and elements. To successfully bring a project to market the firm’s ethic is “Involvement with your every step—from design to completed construction”.

From a two-dimensional plan, they work on every square inch to ensure the best combination of high space utilization and high design. From there, her firm transforms the concept into a three-dimensional plan, adding unique elements, and designing every finish and detail. Finally, during the construction stage, Durukan Design coordinates with all contractors to ensure for a seamless process.

Funda’s philosophy is that high design can be cost efficient and this belief guides each project.

Prior to founding Durukan Design, Funda worked at both The Phillips Group and Mancini Duffy, where she lead the design of notable corporate projects including: EMI, AOL/Time Warner, Reed Elsevier. Ms. Durukan studied design and architecture at the University of Mimar Sinan Faculty of Architecture-Istanbul, Turkey and Fashion Institute of Technology, and The State University of New York, New York.
